Climate Smart Innovation
Climate Smart Innovation (CSI) is a platform to connect startups working on climate tech innovation for the built environment, with investors, and potential customers. The CSI exhibition and pitches are held at the SDI Finals attended by 800 people, where these innovators also inspire the next generation of students and connect with leading practitioners from the design, construction, and real estate industry. The innovations on display have ranged from new, low-carbon building materials to technology that captures water from the atmosphere.
Why the built environment?
Carbon emissions from the construction and operation of buildings in India and other rapidly urbanising countries are expected to grow significantly. Reducing these emissions through high performance and net-zero energy buildings can unlock billions in energy savings for businesses and individuals, while reprioritising investments that would otherwise go into building new power plants.
Why Innovation?
Over 80% of the budget of constructing and operating buildings is spent on technologies developed in the last century. The opportunity for innovation is huge. Recently we have seen startups that are working in prop-tech, climate-tech, and construction-tech. As the construction and real estate investment sector consolidates and experiences sustainability and carbon disclosures, they have started looking for scalable innovations.

All the innovators in the exhibition were fantastic. All of them have shown very high innovation quotient. And what I have seen is like everyone is passionate about what they are building and this is fabulous. SDI is a fabulous event with brings so many innovators, students, and stakeholders together for a mix of synergetic effects for the larger good.

The CSI exhibition brought together a wonderful group of students and professionals from core-architecture and design to allied fields, all with the shared vision of a sustainable future. Being partakers of this vision, it was an extremely exciting and encouraging experience to exhibit our work for CSI at the SDI finals. How do you participate?
Any business, start-up, or organisation from the building industry with a market-ready product or solution that addresses climate change, mitigation, or adaptation is eligible to participate.
- The product should go beyond the conventional performance standards to be innovative in terms of performance or benefits.
- Participants must be willing to come to the net-zero Infosys Campus in Mysore and exhibit the innovation at the SDI Finals.
